A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is typically ectothermic (or cold-blooded), covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Fish are abundant in the sea and in fresh water, with species being known from mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) as well as in the deepest depths of the ocean (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish).

Food prepared from fish is also called fish, and it is an important food source for humans. They are harvested either from wild fisheries (see fishing) or farmed in much the same way as cattle or chickens (see aquaculture). They are also exploited by recreational fishers and fishkeepers, and are exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have had a role in many cultures through the ages, ranging from deities and religious symbols to the subjects of books and popular movies.

Fish varieties that can be put in a water garden?
Q. Someone out there has got to know and have more experience with this than I do. I've looked all over the net and keep coming up with the same answer. Yeah, I know, Koi. We're kind of bored with the same old look though. We'd like to know what fish we can add to our fish/garden pond. Fish that can live outdoors and with Koi. Fish with color. Not plane old pond fish. Something with yellow would be great. Please Help!

A. Goldfish and Orfe are excelent .. hearty and can take the cold nights. -- do a google search on 'Golden orfe' ... I think you'll like them. The following is shamelessly cut-n-pasted (but it's rather to the point and informative): --- The humble Goldfish, bred by Chinese and Japanese fish-keepers from a dull brown wild species, is the most common fish kept in garden ponds. The Goldfish family now has more than 100 varieties, including the Common Goldfish, the Comet with its long tail, the multi-coloured Shubunkins, the oval bodied Fantails and the Veiltails with their flowing fins. Other species to look out for include the Oranda and the Lionhead. Not all these are hardy enough to survive harsh winter conditions, the best survivors are… [cont.]

A. For one, goldfish DO NOT belong in a bowl. They require at least 10 gallons EACH. So please please please do not try to put one in a bowl. Your just asking for the poor thing to die. Betta's on the other hand do very well in bowls. Make sure you keep the bowl clean though, and make sure its a decent size bowl. Clean the water once to twice a week, and only feed small amounts. Good luck!

What species of fish is white with a brown tail?
Q. I saw a fish in one of the aquariums at the San Francisco airport and there was no sign that said what it was called. The fish's body and fins are white, and the tail is a dark brown color. I've taken to calling it a root beer float fish. Anyway, any fish experts out there who know what this variety is called? It wasn't very big. If I remember correctly, about six inches in length give or take an inch.
